We would like to welcome you the offical web site of The First, USCT, Regiment of the District of Columbia.

The unveiling of the African American Civil War Memorial in the nation’s capital in 1998, focused attention as never before on the services of black Union army regiments. Despite their distinguished role and impressive record in the war, no book or film has ever been done on the exploits of the First Regiment, United States Colored Troops, until the book Black, Copper, & Bright: The District of Columbia’s Black Civil War Regiment by C.R. Gibbs.

We hope you will enjoy your stay on this wonderful and eductional web site on the Civil War. Please visit often and tell your friends and family members about this site.
