I Want To Be I want to be the first to tell you about this new children's from Three Dimensional publishing. Richly done in a simple, but effectively written and pictorial format, 3DPublishing.Com has given an inspirational and direction-oriented twist to learning the alphabet and subsequent reading development. Each letter of the alphabet is associated with a nation building profession or skill with children depicted in the roles of adults administering that profession or skill. The accompanying text, in bold type, both explains the profession and gives several reasons why it should be aspired to, e.g. "I want to be an architect so I can design more schools, hospitals, factories, homes, and office buildings for our people." The photographer has to be commended for the real life situations and the serious work expressions on the adult-children. Every photograph is large so that as you read through the book, you get an instant visual impression of the professions, even before you read a single word. Each page has the upper case and lower case letter of the alphabet at the top of the page, example of the word broken into syllables, and the text and image is on the same page. As an added feature, in the eBook version, there's an interactive quiz with a rewarding "I did it" voice for the younger readers. For the older readers, the user can access WritePad (if installed on their computer) to write their essay on "When I Grow Up. I Want To Be is a learning experience for children and adults alike because in addition to familiar fields like education and medicine, it also focuses on little known but necessary areas like kinesiology and oceanography. It also begins to redefine some of the responsibilities of more familiar areas making them more positive and beneficial, e.g. "I want to be a librarian so I can take books to farms and cities of our nation." Additionally, it projects a definite value orientation which counters many of the colonialized motives we currently have for wanting to be. For example, one reason given for wanting to be a welder is &quo; so that I can choose the best building metals for the needs of our people. " The last entry on each page of text is always the same. It states "I want to be a good engineer (communications specialist, urban planner, etc.) so I must learn mathematics, science, and the history of our nation's people." Accurate knowledge of our history and culture is very important because without these we have no guarantee that the professions and skills we aspire to will be used in the interest of nation's people.
