"I have not seen anything that compares to the Gibbs TruVote Vote Validation System even though many vendors have come forward with ideas since the 2000 presidential election."
During the unprecedented events surrounding the validity of the vote count in the 2000 Presidential Election, it became apparent that several inadequacies existed with the voting systems currently used in the United States. His concern for these inadequacies led Athan Gibbs, Sr. to the invention of the TruVote system. Mr. Gibbs’ determination that "it has to be a much better way"
coupled with his auditing background enabled him to create the TruVote system which provides an audit trail and gives each voter the ability to audit his or her own ballot. In a recent collaborative project, sponsored by the Carnegie Corporation, the California Institute of Technology and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology determined that between 1.5 to 2 million
votes were lost in the 2000 election due to faulty equipment and confusing ballot. Their analysis of the reliability of the existing voting technologies and election systems shows that the United States can substantially improve the number of lost votes by upgrading voting technology.TruVote has built in features which will effectively eliminate the vote-counting problems encountered during the 2000 Presidential Election. It is a very user-friendly touch screen system. Features have been incorporated into the screen display that alert the voter if no selection has been made for a particular office. Upon casting his or her ballot, the TruVote system will provide to the voter with a receipt that includes a voter ID and a PIN number. The receipt serves as evidence that the voter’s ballot has been cast and included in the machine’s totals. As additional verification, the voter will be able to use the Voter Audit Call-In or Voter Audit Internet Connection for further assurance that his or her ballot has been cast and counted in the total election results.
